What's the Scoop?
Washing-machine odours can be caused by a variety of factors:
- According to The Soap and Detergent Association, using regular detergent can prevent soils from completely rinsing out of HE washing machines.
- The use of only cold-water cycles can add to the problem.
- Mold or residue can build up in the rubber door gasket or soap dispenser and start to smell.
Recapture your love for your HE washer with these tips:
- Tide® Washing Machine Cleaner helps keep your washer clean and fresh. Use one pouch of Tide Washing Machine Cleaner per week, following package directions. Clean laundry starts with a clean machine. Tide Washing Machine Cleaner freshens your washer and helps fight and lift odour-causing residue.
- Run a monthly maintenance schedule for prevention. Once a month, empty your machine of clothing and run a full wash cycle with one pouch of Tide Washing Machine Cleaner. Select the hot-water option. Tide Washing Machine Cleaner fights odour-causing residues by using an oxygenated bleach system to get at the odour source.
- Use HE detergent. Why? Fewer suds. HE detergents are custom-made to operate in low-water rinsing. Tide HE provides excellent cleaning with the right level of sudsing for high-efficiency washers. It disperses quickly to give great cleaning performance with only a fraction of the amount of water used in traditional machines.
- Use the right amount of detergent. Follow the detergent package directions for the best performance for your clothes — and your machine.
- Don’t leave your laundry in the washer overnight. Set a timer to remind yourself to move the load to the dryer or clothesline immediately after a load is complete.
- Remove debris. Immediately after a load is done, rotate the drum with your hand and remove any residue you see. Also check the rubber door gasket and remove debris.
- Occasionally run warm or hot loads. Help flush out debris and dirt by washing whites in hot water.
